the roots of the Mercedes-AMG G63 go back to 1979, when the original G-class SUV was an all-business military off-roader. Years later, the G63 version became known for its boxy styling, luxurious interior finishes, bold twin-turbo V-8 engine and off-road capabilities – a high-performance all-terrain luxury SUV with an iconic background
what’s new for 2025
The G63 is expected to receive a few minor styling changes for 2025 to improve the aerodynamics of the cube-shaped SUV. a revised grille and front bumper combine with reconfigured A-pillars and a subtle rooftop spoiler above the windshield to help the G63 move air through more easily. elsewhere, the twin-turbo V-8 gets a 48-volt hybrid system, and a new hydraulically adaptive suspension system is optional. AMG further enhances the G-Class’ off-road capabilities, offering wheel articulation and a new all-terrain driving mode for the high-performance SUV. The G Professional Package is also available on the G63 starting this year, adding more aggressive off-road gear and special interior trim. all models benefit from infotainment upgrades: the brand’s MBUX interface is new to the G-Class this year, and there are several G-specific features for off-roading, including a new 360-degree camera system that can show drivers what’s directly below the vehicle. The G63 is expected to arrive at Mercedes-AMG dealerships in the second half of 2024
pricing and who can buy it
The G63-AMG G63 will be priced at $26,300. that’s up about $700,000 from the previous model, but the Grand Edition has been replaced by the Great White Edition. All Mercedes-AMG G63s come standard with 20-inch wheels, adaptive dampers, front brush guards, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and three-zone climate control, but most buyers consider the SUV’s base price a blank canvas. the Manufaktur personalization program has tons of customization options, and it’s a well-kept secret that AMG will accommodate almost any kind of buyer request, as long as the checks don’t clear
engine, Transmission, and Performance
The G63 AMG V8 bi-turbo gasoline engine is a beast, producing 585 hp of peak power and 86.7 kg.m of peak torque, good for a 0-60 mph time of 4,4 seconds. however, the most talked-about aspect of the car is its fuel economy, which has been criticized at 5.8 mpg
interior, comfort, and cargo
While the G-Class’ basic square-shouldered profile remains, the interior benefits from the same high-quality materials and the technology and amenities that make the Mercedes lineup stand out. there’s leather upholstery, a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, cup holders, and a surround-view camera system. heated front and rear seats and a leather-wrapped AMG steering wheel are also on the standard list. taller drivers and passengers will find plenty of headroom and legroom in the front and rear. There’s still no power liftgate in the back of the G-Class, and you’ll need to be in good shape to open the side-hinged gate that houses a full-size spare tire
safety and driver assistance features
the Mercedes-AMG G63’s driver assistance aids are similar to those offered elsewhere in the company’s lineup. these include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. a more advanced adaptive cruise control system with lane-centric features is optional. For more information on the G63’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. key safety features include:
- standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- standard lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- available adaptive cruise control with lane center function
warranty and maintenance coverage
mercedes-AMG’s limited and powertrain warranties are on par with other luxury SUVs. However, instead of free scheduled maintenance, a prepaid maintenance plan is available for an additional cost when you purchase the G63.
- the limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles.
- the powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles.
- no free scheduled maintenance
i’ve learned about the 2025 G63 AMG, but I want the G64 AMG, the man’s dream…lol
