Polène Opens Its First Flagship Store on Garosu-gil, Seoul
The French leather brand Polène, which started in Paris, has opened its first store in Garosu-gil, Seoul, following locations in Paris, New York, and Tokyo. Officially opened on June 15, 2023, this store serves as a new landmark showcasing the brand’s sophisticated aesthetics and fusion with local culture.
A Space Originating from Leather — Designed by WGNB
The Seoul store was designed and interior-fitted by the architectural studio WGNB, with the entire space completed starting from the texture and flexibility of leather, which is the essence of Polène. CEO Baek Jong-hwan of WGNB envisioned “a space that flows like a single piece of leather wrapping around the building” while designing the 245㎡ structure.
The curved glass windows at the front of the store convey a round and warm atmosphere, while the interior features a harmonious blend of leather chairs, ginkgo furniture (by artist Lim Jeong-joo), and ceramic tables expressing leather textures (by artist Lee Da-sol), adding delicate details.
Second Floor Photo Bloom and Collaboration with Seoul Artists
On the second floor, a space decorated with leather flowers features a photo booth ‘Photo Bloom’, allowing visitors to experience the brand’s sensibility against a natural backdrop.
Additionally, to celebrate the opening, visiting customers will receive iced tea aids from the traditional Korean tea brand Omoote and Hanji fans made by paper artist Kim Hyun-joo on a first-come, first-served basis. All of this will be introduced through Polène’s short video project ‘L’Adresse’, highlighting ‘beloved spaces in Seoul’ created by the brand and local artists.
The Brand’s Philosophy Conveyed Through Space
Polène is realizing its brand philosophy of conveying the atmosphere of the city and craftsmanship not only through its products but also through its stores. The Seoul store will be remembered as a space infused with philosophy about the material leather and the connection with artists, transcending the concept of a simple retail outlet.
