uNIQLO opens its first prototype store in Jeju, South Korea – a new take on the Donam and Seogwipo stores

uNIQLOhas opened its first prototype stores inKorea, simultaneously in Donam and Seogwipo, Jeju Island. the two stores, which opened on April 25, 2025, are emerging as new landmarks in the Jeju region with their large logo cube facades measuring 5.8 meters across and down.

the exterior of the store is decorated with floors and stone walls made of basalt from Jeju Island, and the store’s simple design harmoniously reflects local sentiment and materials, which is characteristic of UNIQLO. This is more than just a retail space, but an attempt to coexist with the local area and brand identity.

a unique collaboration with a local Jeju brand

to celebrate the opening, UNIQLO has partnered with local Jeju brandsto launch a special series of limited-edition T-shirts called UTme! Participating brands include

• uMU – handmade pudding
• gulmedal – Jeju citrus brand
• donghwa Village – Jeju’s Oreum landscape
• hallasan Soju – Jeju’s signature local liquor

the eight Yutimi items are available exclusively at the Jeju storeand are a meaningful way to experience local and global collaboration.

lifewear permeates Jeju

the “Life in Jeju, Lifewear UNIQLO” project highlights the stories of people living in Jeju and how UNIQLO clothing permeates their daily lives. the booklet, which features stories from a horse trainer, marine scientist, and more, is available for free at UNIQLO stores in Jeju, and can also be found on the official website.

the brand’s commitment to the environment

prior to the store’s official opening, UNIQLO collaborated with Jeju University’s environmental club RE:EARTHto organize a major beach cleanup on the island, demonstrating the brand’s philosophy of making tangible contributions to the local community.
