New Space to Debut at Place du Palais-Royal in 2025

At the end of 2025, Fondation Cartier will unveil a new space in the heart of Paris at Place du Palais-Royal. This site, historically a Haussmannian building built during the time of Napoleon III, has a rich history as it was once used as Le Grand Hôtel du Louvre and Louvre des Antiquaires.

Jean Nouvel proposes a structure open to the city while respecting the historical context of the existing building. Through windows facing Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Rue de Rivoli, and Place du Palais-Royal, both visitors and passersby will encounter the art space and the city in a new way.

The new space, covering a total of 8,500㎡, will include 6,500㎡ of exhibition space and 1,200㎡ of public walkways. Notably, there will be five movable platforms, each allowing for vertical and flexible structures, enabling spatial transformations of up to 11 meters in height. This will allow artists to utilize the space itself as part of their work.

The foundation has expressed its ambition to continue a dynamic dialogue between contemporary culture and the city through this space. Fondation Cartier aims to become a platform for experimentation and communication, open to both the citizens of Paris and audiences from around the world, going beyond a simple art exhibition space.

The new home of Cartier within Palais Royal, where art, architecture, and the city are organically connected. By the end of 2025, it will establish itself as a new cultural landmark that visitors to Paris must not miss.
