‘MUSIC OF THE MIND’ & ‘DREAM TOGETHER’, Peace and Imagination through Art

two of Berlin’s leading art museums, the Gropius Bau and the Neue Nationalgalerie, are presenting a major exhibition by world-renowned artist Yoko Ono. the exhibition, which runs from April 11 through the end of August 2025, will highlightthe artist’s artistic journey, combining art with politics and social messages through more than 200 works .

based on different concepts, the two exhibitions will present a three-dimensional presentation of Yoko Ono’s iconic works that explorethemes of participation, reflection, peace, and feminism.

mUSIC OFTHE MIND at Gropius Bauis a major solo exhibition centered on the conceptual art of Yoko Ono. the title refers to the 1960s performance series of the same name in London and Liverpool, and conveys the artist’s message of breaking down the boundaries of art through aseries of ‘instructions’, early performance art, films, and installations thatspark the viewer’s imagination.

the exhibitionincludes iconic works such as ” Cut Piece,”“FLY,” “WISH TREE,” “SKY TV, and more, and invitesvisitorsto experience Yoko Ono’s unique creative process,where art is created through audience participation and interaction.

the interior of the exhibition is organized as a space for action and imagination, not just viewing . “The role of an artist is not to destroy the world, but to redefine the value of things,” said Yoko Ono , and this message ofusing the power of art to change the world is woventhroughout the exhibition.

during the same period, the exhibition DREAM TOGETHERwill be on view at the Neue Nationalgalerie. the exhibition focuses onparticipatory installations that start from individual contemplation and extend to communal peace.

cleaning Piece, installed at the entrance, invites visitors to reflect on their inner lives through local stones, while Mend Piece invites them to experience the process of restoration and healingby piecing together broken ceramic glasses .

the signature installation,Play It By Trust, embodies the themes of “trust” and “memory” through alarge chessgamein which all the chess pieces are white,and the viewer is invited to participate in a game that cannot be completed without cooperation.

feminism, Peace, and the Expansion of the Imagination

yoko Ono’s work transcends time and genre ,repeatedly addressing consistent themes.a feminist gazeis evident in her performance and filmworks, such as Cut Piece, Fly, and Freedom,which containinsights into the female body and voice within social structures.

the exhibition concludes with her late workMy Mommy Is Beautiful, in which visitors are invited to participate by leaving photos and personal messages about their mothers directly on the installation.the work proposes a multi-layered interpretation ofmotherhood and mourning, femininity and memory.

gropius Bauwill also offer a space toshare the artist’s perspective on contemporary global issues, includingthe participatory installationAdding Color (Painting for RefugeesBoat),the PEACE ISPOWER banner installation, andthe WISHTREE for Berlin.

visitors are invited to write their wishes for peace on small pieces of paper and tie them to the branches of the tree, creating a space for communication and communal action through art.
