france’s leading contemporary art museum, the Centre Pompidou, is coming to Seoul. the Centre Pompidou, one of France’s top three art museums alongside the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, will open in Hanwha 63 Building in the second half of 2025 underthe name ‘Centre PompidouHanwha Seoul’.
where will the Pompidou Center Seoul be located?
the Pompidou Center Hanwha Seoul will occupy the former 63 Sea World Aquarium in the 63 Building in Yeouido, Seoul. The 1,000-square-meter space will be transformed into an art museum through an extensive renovation from the basement to the fourth floor, and will be designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, offering a different contemporary interpretation of the original Parisian building.
how will the exhibitions be organized and operated?
the Pompidou Center has a collection of about120,000 pieces of 20th and 21st century modern art byworld-renowned artistssuch as Marcel Duchamp, Chagall, Mondrian, and Andy Warhol. in Seoul, the center will hold two special exhibitions every year, curated around masterpieces that have never been shown in Korea.
we will also operate a children’s creative experience museumto expand artistic opportunities for families.

the operating entity , Hanwha Cultural Foundation, isnot just a museum, but also supports emerging artists in Korea andpromotes overseas residency programs inpartnership with the Pompidou Center. in 2024, it launched the Young Artist Residency Program in collaboration with three institutions in San Francisco (USA), Vienna (Austria), and the South of France, opening up opportunities for Korean artists to go global.
