The Pompidou Center (Centre Pompidou), representing France’s contemporary art, is landing in Seoul. The Pompidou Center, which is counted among the top three museums in France along with the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, will open its doors in the second half of 2025 under the name Pompidou Center Hanwha Seoul in Hanwha’s 63 Building.

The Pompidou Center Hanwha Seoul will be located in the former site of the 63 Sea World Aquarium in 63 Building, Yeouido, Seoul. The approximately 1,000 pyeong space will be transformed into an art museum through extensive renovation from the basement to the 4th floor, with Jean-Michel Wilmotte in charge of the design, showcasing a modern interpretation different from the Paris headquarters.

The Pompidou Center holds approximately 120,000 pieces of contemporary art from the 20th and 21st centuries by world-renowned artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Chagall, Mondrian, and Andy Warhol. In Seoul, it plans to hold two curated exhibitions each year, focusing on masterpieces that have not been introduced in Korea.

Additionally, a children’s creative experience art museum will be operated to expand artistic experience opportunities for family visitors.

The operating entity, Hanwha Cultural Foundation, aims to go beyond simple museum operations by promoting support for emerging domestic artists and overseas residency programs through its partnership with the Pompidou Center. In 2024, it will launch the ‘Young Artist Residency Program’ in collaboration with institutions in San Francisco, Austria, and southern France, opening opportunities for domestic artists to enter the global stage.
