following the summit, South Korean and Chinese environmental authorities reportedly reviewed the achievements of panda cooperation and reached a consensus to deepen cooperation in the future. according to reports, the scope of the discussions could extend beyond panda research to other environmental areas such as protected area management and wildlife conservation.

the link in this issue is the history of Korea-China panda cooperation. panda cooperation between China and South Korea began in earnest in 2014, when a joint statement during President Xi Jinping’s visit to South Korea included support for joint panda research, followed by working-level consultations that led to the arrival of Aibao and Lovao in South Korea in 2016.
current Status of Pandas in Korea
currently, there are four pandas in South Korea, including Aibao and Lovao and twin pandas born in 2023 at Everland (Yongin, Gyeonggi Province). fubao was returned to China in 2024 under an agreement.
