House of New World reinterprets this wise summer culture in a modern way, transforming the exhibition hall into a “gyehae” space.

through “Dokseodang Gyehwae-do,” one of the Joseon Dynasty’s Gyehwae-do, visitors can get a glimpse of the landscape of the time and feel the spirit of our ancestors who enjoyed summer by communing with nature.

Natural materials, craftsmanship: Crafts that build summer

The exhibition features crafts made from natural materials that resemble summer, such as bamboo, wand grass, and hanji.

these are more than just exhibits; visitors are invited to sit, touch, and be a part of the experience.

• this circular bench, with the cool touch of bamboo poles, reminds us of the nostalgic scene of sitting around the village well and chatting
• . ‘Leaf Fan’ by Lee Jongguk: The artist organized the hand-knitted Hanji in three dimensions to effectively collect the wind, and added landscape paintings on top of it, making it more than just a tool, but a work of art.

‘A Place Where Summer Dwells’ is not just for the eyes. there are a variety of hands-on programs, including a lecture by Professor Gongho Choi on the stories of ‘Gyehoe’ and ‘Takjuk’ and a fan and bamboo nest-making workshop with artists Lee Jongguk and Han Changkyun, to help you enjoy our summer culture more deeply.
